I believe that portraiture is a collaboration between the photographer and the subject, both sharing equally in the success of the final image.
Come sit with me is a collection of personal portraits, a homage similar to a 'family wall' of loved ones and friends whom I have been (mostly) photographing for years, in some cases decades. Over time, the portraits we have made together have become more theatrical and often silence is a feature as we move towards capturing these moments.
The subject of the portraits do what they feel like doing, and I guide them; momentarily we dance together until our scenario is complete. Generally this takes no more than a few seconds.
I am always humbled by the trust and excitement the camera releases. Come sit with me is a series that aims to evoke personality and intimacy, even it the person being photographed was caught off guard with little to no warning at all. I will forever be intrigued by and grateful for the generous personalities that the process of portraiture reveals.
